Titicaca Lake Tour - Uros Floating Islands & Taquile Amantani Islands

The 2-day excursion to Lake Titicaca offers an immersive experience of the breathtaking Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. This tour includes visits to the Uros Floating Islands, Taquile Island and Amantani Island.

The excursion begins with a visit to the unique Floating Islands of the Uros. These artificial islands are built entirely of totora reeds, and the Uros people have lived on them for generations. You will have the opportunity to learn about their traditional way of life, interact with the locals and even take a short ride on a traditional totora reed boat.

The excursion then continues to the island of Taquile, known for its rich textile traditions and picturesque landscapes. Here you can explore the island, watch the locals weaving intricate textiles and enjoy breathtaking views of the lake from several viewpoints.
Finally, the tour includes a visit to the island of Amantani, to spend the night with a local family and experience their hospitality and way of life.

Day 1: Puno – Uros Floating Island – Amantani Homestay

We will pick you up from your hotel between 7:30 am to 8:00 am. From there, we will embark on a motor boat journey that will take approximately 2 hours to reach the Uros Island. The Uros Islands are inhabited by fishermen and hunters who have built these unique floating islands. They utilize the cattail, a local rush plant that grows in the lake, to construct and maintain the floating platforms. The dense roots of these plants provide the necessary support for the islands. The houses on the islands have waterproof roofs, but due to their proximity to the water, they tend to be quite humid.

Continuing our boat journey, we will then proceed to the next island called Amantani. Upon arrival, you will have your first encounter with local families who will accompany you to their homes. You will be accommodated in basic yet typical rooms amidst the agricultural fields. The local family will provide you with all your meals. After lunch, the entire group will embark on a walk to the highest point of the island known as Pachatata temple, situated at an elevation of 4200m. This location offers stunning panoramic views of the sacred blue lake of the Incas, and it is an ideal spot for capturing photographs. Your tour guide will provide explanations and insights about the area.

Following the visit to the temple, we will return to the local homes for dinner. Later in the evening, you can enjoy traditional dances accompanied by local musicians. You will spend the night in the welcoming home of a local family.

Day 2: Amantani Island – Taquile Island – Puno

After enjoying a delicious family breakfast, we will gather the entire group at 8 am to embark on a boat journey towards Taquile Island. The crossing of the lake will take approximately 3 hours, and it will be our final destination for the tour.

Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore the island and learn about its vibrant culture, traditional costumes, and everyday activities. Your guide will provide explanations and insights at the main square, and you can also take short treks around the island to further immerse yourself in its beauty.

During the visit, you will have the chance to savor a delightful lunch at the co-operative restaurant, which supports the local community. Additionally, there is a co-operative shop on the plaza that offers exceptional woolen goods of high quality, although they may not come at a low price.

Taquile Island is renowned for its skilled craft production, particularly its exquisite textiles. Although the island is narrow, measuring only about 1 kilometer wide, it stretches for 6 to 7 kilometers in length. Along with its captivating landscapes, Taquile Island is also home to numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins, as well as Inca terracing, adding to its historical significance.

In the late afternoon, around 4 or 5 pm, we will begin our return journey to Puno. You will be transferred back to your hotel, concluding the memorable 2-day tour of the Titicaca Lake and its fascinating islands.
