How to get to Lares Trek? Lares is 149 kilometers from the city of Cusco. To get to the trailhead, you will travel by car or van through the villages of Pisac and Calca in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

What can you see and do on the Lares Trek? Lares Valley is a unique cultural trekking route, that treks off the beaten path. You pass through the most isolated indigenous communities which are keeping the Inca culture alive and will have the privilege to interact with them. The route is incredibly picturesque, with majestic ice glaciers, shockingly blue glacial lakes, waterfalls, llamas, and alpacas. ENJOY THIS AMAZING PLACE

After that you will hike the Inca trail to Machupicchu, which is one of the famous hike in order to arrive to Machupicchu hiking and you will see Machupicchu 2 times.

Day 1: Cusco – Quishuarani – Pachaqutec Pass – Cancha Cancha

The excitement of your Lares trek & Inca Trail to Machu Picchu will help you arise early for your pickup at 5:00am whether in Cusco or Sacred Valley. Then, you will drive for 3 hours approx to Quishuarani community. It’s time to get ready, put your boots on and begin your hike to our first Campsite called Cancha Cancha.

 You will start your 4 hour hike heading southwest, an intense walk accomplishing  to the highest point of our trek called Pachacutec Pass (4,700 m / 15,420 ft). Embrace the feeling of total exhilaration and self-achievement for making the summit. Rewarding you for the intense hike are the views of the rigid glaciers, blue glacial lakes, llama herds, rugged valleys and undulating farmlands. After time to enjoy the picturesque 360º views, you descend for about 30 minutes, where you will have lunch with great views of glaciers and the majestic views of the Lares Valley with herds of llamas and alpacas peacefully grazing. After a siesta time, you descend for 2 hours until you reach your campsite located by the community of Cancha Cancha, (3,700m /12,139ft), where llama herders are often seen and the local indigenous people will open their hearts and interact with you in the Quechua language (Inca language). Your guide will act as your mediator to translate and teach you some quechua words.

At the campsite everything will be ready to enjoy your afternoon tea and dinner after that your tents is going to be ready for a good sleep.

Day 2: Cancha Cancha – Huaran – Ollantaytambo

 Your adventure continues as you begin the most memorable day yet! After breakfast, you’ll have time to explore the community and visit the local elementary school, where the students still learn in a Quechua lunguage. Once you are ready, you’ll begin the last leg of your hike. It will be 3 to 4 hours approx. of hiking a gentle downhill, along a lovely stream, where you will pass by more llamas and alpacas. We’ll pass by farms where the farmers are cultivating potatoes, corn and some beans, and many other traditional tubers, in the traditional way (Inca style). This is a great opportunity to learn about Peruvian agriculture because people still farm by hand with traditional tools. Now, we will start to descend to the warmer area, the Sacred Valley. You will begin to feel the micro-climate changes and start seeing crops that are different from the high mountains to the lower valley. Finally, you arrive to Huaran, where you have your lunch and where you will say goodbye to your horses, horsemen, chef and porters, as they will be going back to their homes. From Huaran, you will take a van and make the short drive into the valley to Ollantaytambo and you will stay in a hotel. Ollantaytambo is the only living, intact Inca village. It still has many Inca water channels, houses and walls. Your guide will take you around to view this small town until it is time for dinner, which will be at a local restaurant. After your dinner your tour guide is going to explain to you the plan for the next day Inca trail

Day 3: Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Machupicchu.

We will start your trip by picking you up from your hotel and then we will take you to  Ollantaytambo train station. From here, we will take the train for 1 hour approximately to Km 104 where we will start our amazing trek on the Inca Trail! Our adventure begins with an uphill hike for about 4 hours until we arrive to the archeological site of Wiña Wayna (Always Young). We will enjoy our  box lunch  here in the middle of the mountains and will have free time to rest and enjoy the beautiful view.
Next, we will continue our hike, moving toward a site called Inti Punku (the Sun Gate). From this place, we will be able to look down and admire the great beauty of the Inca citadel Machu Picchu! Here, the Inca Trail officially ends.
We will finish our first day’s adventure following the lateral trail in direction to the exit of Machu Picchu where we will take a bus to Aguas Calientes town, We will have dinner there and then rest comfortably and private Hotel.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco

Today you will get to enjoy exploring Machu Picchu and experience her magical presence by taking the first bus at 5:30AM to the Machu Picchu archeological site.  If you hurry you will get to see the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Take your time, making sure you tour every nook and cranny of this New 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. It is an unforgettable experience.

Your guide will expertly direct you through the energetic ruins and its diverse main streets. Then on your own, wander around the town squares of the world’s spiritual center of esoteric wisdom as well as climb the intricately carved stairways made of stone. Or stay still and drink in the pure majesty of her presence, and enjoy the pure delight of the moment.
Here are a few of alternative activities that you might wish to indulge in on your own:

  • Climb up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain and appreciate the beauty and magnificence of Machu Picchu (not included in your tour price and must be booked in advance.)
  • You will be given some time to walk to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku (free of charge)
  • Other optional activities in Aguas Calientes include a visit to the new local museum or to the hot springs (entrance fees required)

You will descend to Aguas Calientes and later on, board the  train around 15:20 or 16:20  depending of the availability of the train tickets for the return trip to Cusco stopping at the Ollantaytambo Station and be driven back to Cusco by Bus and finally back to  your hotel.

**Huayna Picchu Mountain is optional trek within Machu Picchu Citadel which do not include a guide. The climb is usually done on your own after your tour of Machu Picchu Citadel. If you would like the extra hike to be guided, please request in advance. There is an extra cost for this extra guided tour. 

WHAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE WITH YOU

  • Original passport (it has to be the same you have used for booking your trek)
  • Valid university card (if you booked as a student)
  • Good daypack (the smaller, the better)
  • Water storage:  2-3L (Please bring reusable, not disposable bottles)
  • Comfortable hiking boots with ankle support
  • Sleeping bag (can be rented from Peru Treks)

WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR DUFFEL BAG

As a Direct Local Tour operator we provide you with a duffel bag at your briefing time and  INCLUDE an extra weight who will carry up to 6 kgs or 12lbs by our horses including your 2.5kg sleeping bag, mattress and extra clothing.  All bags will be weighed before being accepted. If you require more than 6 kilograms, it will then be your responsibility to carry the extra weight with your day pack. In this 6 kilos, please count 2 kilos for your sleeping bag and 1 kilo for your sleeping pad. This leaves you about 3 kilos for your personal gear.

WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR BACKPACK

We highly recommend a small backpack 30 to 40L for hiking in the day. A big backpack will not be allowed into Machu Picchu. The remainder of your belongings will be in your duffel bag at camp.

  • Water: Please supply your own water until the first lunch spot, then we will provide you with cold boiled water  at every meal time. Please bring your canteens.
