Machu Picchu

Dry Season

From May to October the days are sunnier and with little chance of rain. For many visitors it is the best time to hike. Sunny days favor getting the best photos on the route. June, July and August are the driest months but with the coldest temperatures at night.

Rain Season

From November to March it usually rains more frequently. Some tourists are uncomfortable. Others enjoy the beautiful landscapes that the rain brings. The rains can cause slipping on the road so you must walk carefully. January, February and March are the rainiest months so the necessary precautions should be taken.

Closing in February

February is the rainiest month so the authorities decide to close the Inca Trail for safety and to carry out maintenance work on the route. During that month tourists can be encouraged to do other alternative hiking routes such as the Lares trek, Huchuy Qosqo trek or the Choquequirao trek.

Small Groups

Peru Treks is specialist in a small groups, the minimum is 2 people and the maximum 8 people, usually, when you will have a big group (10 - 20), you can not appreciate the beautiful landspaces or learn about our history from our guides or maybe you will need to run on the hikes or tours because some people are going to walk fast or slowly. Remember your hikes to Machu Picchu or any tours, "is not a competition". Our guide walks with you and you can enjoy your hikes and tours. On the hikes, there are many people and if you would like to introduce other people, our guide will help you.

Campsites

The campsites for each night along the Inca Trail are Huayllabamba, Pacaymayo and Wiñayhuayna (or Phuyupatamarca). All are well equipped for tourists. The authorities have chosen these places for the security they offer. Tourism agencies include all the necessary comfort to spend the night.
About the last campsite Phuyupatamarka and Wiñayhuyana the different is the time to arrive to Machupicchu and depending how far in advance did you book your inca trail

Availability

The spaces for the Inca trail is only 500 spaces available per day, of which 200 correspond to tourists and the rest of the spaces to the support team: guides, cooks, and porters. Due to this, it is recommended to book in advance your inca trail tickets between 6 or 7 months in advance

Prohibitions

During the Inca Trail it is forbidden to damage the Inca buildings. Tourists should not carry knives, fuel, drones, firearms, and more. Remember that damaging the heritage of the Incas is considered a serious crime by the Peruvian authorities. Let’s take care of the historic Inca Trail and preserve it for the future!

Meals

Being a trekking chef for the Inca Trail or any adventure towards Machu Picchu is not easy at all. A trekking chef needs to carry all the needed gear for every day’s meals, set up the kitchen tent and start the process to provide the best dishes you can imagine. All of the meals are cooked in a cooking pot and follow the most detailed protocols to make the food delicious and safe for be eaten. Our trekking chefs can cater to any dietary need or allergies without losing any of the flavor these meals will have. A great hot breakfast, a three course lunch and the afternoon tea with diner to make everyday a treat. Hiking is better when knowing that the best food is waiting for you!
