CUSCO – HUMANATAY LAKE – CUSCO
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:30am and drive 2 hours to Mollepata town here we will enjoy our breakfast, after that we will keep driving to the trailhead of Soraypampa located in the lush valley of the Apurimac River.
We hike along a path called the “Humantay Lake Tour” as we gain altitude. After reaching the tiny village, where few amenities exist, we continue for another hour and a half, ascending 1,200 feet in just 2 miles up a steep path. After conquering the last hill, we will gaze down on a turquoise lake below, which is surrounded by steep peaks and an impressive glacier.
On the trek you are surrounded by the Salkantay Mountains, one of Peru’s most sacred mountains, towering 20,600 feet with a sheer and snowy face. The equally impressive Humantay Peak, rising 19,412 feet, is also within view. Shamans and other natives will often give blessing when reaching the crystal-clear waters of Humantay Lake. Once we reach the lakeshore, we relax, enjoy a snack, or give thanks to Pachamama (Mother Earth). When you are ready to hike back down, we will descend to Soraypampa and take our car back to Mollepata town where we will have our lunch while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of the snowy peaks. Classic Inca trail with my 21y old daughter. Our guide Juan Carlo was very knowledgeable about history, culture, plants. - Excellent service before and after the trek from Darwin. Highly recommend Peru treks for the classic Inca trail, and day trips to sacred valley and rainbow mountain

Unforgettable experience - We had an incredible time doing the Lares Trek with Herbert and his team: Javier, Elario & Ronaldinho.
I was nervous initially - I’d never done a... read more multi-day hike before, but Peru Trek made us feel at home straight away. Herbert was very friendly and knowledgeable, and encouraged us to take it at our own pace. They were very quick and organised, setting up camp before we’d even arrive.
The Lares Trek is fairly off the beaten path, and I recommend it for the incredible sights - it is more lowkey than the Inca trail, and felt like having the whole mountain to ourselves! Being 4,700m in the air, you get a panoramic view of the mountains and glaciers. After the trek, you can go to a hot spring to relax. Along the way, you learn a lot about the local culture and Inca history.
The chef, Javier, made some of the best food I’d eaten in Peru. There was so much variety: soups, meat dishes, pancakes, salads, and he even baked a surprise cake at the end.
If you are worried about altitude sickness, rest assured they are very helpful. The day before our trek started, I was suffering with fever and almost didn’t go on it. But Darwin and Herbert assured me that we can always go back down if I’m feeling too ill, and they also brought someone to assist me in case I needed help. Thankfully my condition got better but it was good for peace of mind.
If we came to Peru again, we would definitely go with Peru Treks and try some of their other trails. I highly recommend going with this group for your travels.
